On Thursday, November 2nd, the COPRI & EWRI institutes held a joint event that included a Technical Talk on the design and construction of Living Shorelines and held a networking social after the talk. Leonard Barrera Allen, COPRI chair, along with Margarita Wells, EWRI chair, jointly organized the event with support from the Branch President Yulet Miguel. The technical talk was performed by the City of Miami Beach Sustainability Manager, Flavia Tonioli. The talk focused on the design of living shorelines as a means of reinforcing existing shorelines, minimizing coastal erosion, and protecting and enhancing the natural habitat for aquatic plants and wildlife. Current living shoreline projects in the City of Miami Beach were highlighted and shown as an effective application of living shorelines. The technical talk was approved for 1 PDH credit.
