FAQs
GENERAL

What is this event?
This event is a fundraiser for the scholarships the Miami-Dade Branch of ASCE awards each year to University of Miami and Florida International University students. Each of our sponsors will develop and build a hole for the course; these holes will make up the Mini-Golf course you play. In addition, we will have a raffle, lunch, everyone will get admission to the Zoo, and an awards ceremony will take place at the end of the day.

Why should I support this event?
There are several reasons to support this event, each is a worthy cause in and of itself:
  1. This event will fund the scholarships we award now and in the future.
  2. It will promote camaraderie among the members of the Miami-Dade Branch of ASCE.
  3. It will be a flagship event for the Branch to promote itself not only within the local engineering community, but as a voice for the industry and within the ASCE organization nationally.
  4. For the Miami-Dade Branch to be successful in our Goals we must strengthen our membership base, and this is the type of event that will generate new interest in our Branch.
  5. It is a great chance to come out and market your product or firm to the other engineers in attendance, both in the public and private sector.
  6. Because if you build the winning hole, you will take home bragging rights and a huge trophy to display in your office!
Should I bring my family?
Yes. The event is being held at Zoo Miami, a great place for you to bring the entire family and enjoy the day. Admission to the park and lunch is included for all who attend. The cost of a child to attend is less than you would spend on a day at the Zoo and lunch anyway!

If I'm not a sponsor can I still attend?
Of course! Attendance at the event is offered at individual rates. As this is a family event, we encourage you to invite everyone you know  to come out and have a good time!

SPONSORSHIP

Who should sponsor?
  1. Anyone who wants to support ASCE and/or our scholarship fund.
  2. Anyone who would like to market their firm or products to local engineers from the public and private sector.
  3. Anyone who likes Mini-Golf.
How much is sponsorship?
The cost of sponsorship is $300 and the construction of a hole for the course. For information on the requirements and ideas for building a hole, go to the main Mini-Golf webpage and check out the files available for download at the bottom of the page.

What is included with my sponsorship?
Your sponsorship includes:
  1. One hole on the course, where your company's logo will be displayed, and you will be recognized for your contribution.
  2. Recognition in event advertisements, including our website.
  3. Attendance for a Foursome at the event. (includes lunch, admission to the park, and participation in the event)
  4. Miami-Dade ASCE Polo Shirts for your Foursome.
  5. You may bring company promotional materials to the event to give to attendees.
So, how exactly do I build this hole?
We have prepared a "Hole Construction Code" which is available for download at the bottom of the main Mini-Golf webpage. If you need inspiration you can look at the "Maryland Section Indoor Golf Tournament" file, also available there, for ideas.

A typical hole can be built in an afternoon by your team of four. Just make a plan ahead of time, take a trip to the hardware store for supplies, and crack open a six-pack (of soda, of course) and put it together.

We recommend putting one of the younger members of your company in charge, and let them take the lead as project manager. This can be great experience!

Are any alternative/additional sponsorship opportunities available?
Yes, exclusively to those firms who have already committed to sponsoring a hole. Please contact Barton Fye, P.E., M.ASCE, our Mini-Golf Chair and Secretary of the Miami-Dade Branch to discuss sponsorship opportunities.

Can't I sponsor without building a hole?
Unfortunately, no. Because this event requires a large commitment of not only resources, but time, by our hole sponsors, it would not be fair to those who have made the effort to build a hole. Special exceptions may be made for non-A/E/C companies (such as a printing company who is willing to print signs and scorecards, or an electronics store who will donate raffle prizes).
However, anyone may make a donation to the scholarship fund at the event, or at any time by speaking with one of our Board Members.

Will there be any awards presented at the event?
