The 2009-2010 school year is underway and UM-ASCE is looking forward
to a productive fall semester. The students are getting back in to
the swing of things and are glad to be reacquainted with their
peers. As the engineering students of the class of 2013 begin their
collegiate studies, UM-ASCE hopes to begin recruiting new students
in order to take advantage of such high potential. A social was held
at TGI Friday’s so that students could meet and greet one another in
a casual and fun setting. The event helped strengthen as well as
form new bonds of friendship.
In addition, several students attended the Florida
Section’s Annual Meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida where they were
able to interact with professionals and attend lectures. UM claimed
three of the four collegiate awards presented: Omar De Leon won
Student of the Year, Patrick Kaimrajh took home the Student
Outstanding Service Award, and Dr. Tinoco received Faculty Advisor
of the Year.
UM-ASCE accomplished a great achievement this
summer thanks to grad student and distinguished member, Felipe
Mejia. The club is proud to have launched a beautifully designed and
highly functional website, www.umasce.com. The students hope that
the website will help promote the club and attract the interest of
engineers around the world.
